Rheumatology /
Osteology
In recent years, advances in the diagnosis and treatment of rheumatological and osteological conditions have improved significantly. As a result, diseases can now not only be diagnosed earlier, but also treated more effectively, thereby preventing damage to joints, organs, or bones.
In inflammatory rheumatic diseases (also known as autoimmune diseases), the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues, leading to an inflammatory response. Inflammation most commonly affects the joints and spine. However, organs such as the lungs, heart, kidneys, gastrointestinal tract, skin, and the circulatory or nervous systems can also be affected. Contrary to widespread belief, inflammatory rheumatic diseases do not affect only older adults; they can occur as early as childhood or adolescence and are very common in young adults. Osteoporosis is often associated with rheumatic diseases but can also occur as a separate bone disorder. When diagnosed early and correctly, rheumatological and osteological conditions can be treated at any age.
In the Department of Rheumatology, we offer the full range of modern diagnostic and therapeutic options for inflammatory rheumatic diseases and bone disorders (osteology). In addition to outpatient care, we offer inpatient treatment options for specific disease courses in cooperation with the InnKlinikum Altötting and Mühldorf.
